Texas Tech was a challenge all year round. They won some great games, including a sweep at Stillwater last week. And they lost some games, especially mid-week games, but that didn’t make sense. One thing was constant-they were almost perfect at home. Until Oklahoma comes to town. The Suners lasted longer than the Red Raiders on both Thursday and Friday, but Tech rebounded on Sunday.
Both Texas and West Virginia dominated the series at two schools in Kansas. And Baylor made a miraculous comeback on Thursday to steal one from Oklahoma. The big 12 teams that had the best weekend were the ones that didn’t play the conference series – TCU. The frogs swept their series against Santa Clara. After the OU won on Thursday, the frog learned that it had gained a share of the big 12 titles. And after Tech won on Saturday, Frogs found out they were the perfect conference champions.
Here’s a summary of last weekend’s conference series (rankings are based on last week’s D1Baseball.com Top 25)
# 22 Texas (39-17, 14-10) vs. Kansas (20-33, 4-20)
Texas sweeps the series 3-0
Texas knew that it needed to keep pace with West Virginia in order to maintain at least the fifth seed in the tournament. The Longhorns had no problems with Kansas, dominating all three games and surpassing the J-Hawks 31-11.
Thursday: Texas won 12-4. (Winning pitcher-Pete Hansen; Losing pitcher-Daniel Hegati)

Kansas (27-27, 8-16) vs. West Virginia (33-20, 14-10)
West Virginia sweeps the series 3-0
The Mountaineers were able to finish the season at home against K-State. Their goal was to do better than Texas to make them jump in tournament seeds, but both teams swept their respective series. WVU was huge at 15-4 on Thursday and I loved the score so I repeated it on Friday.

# 5 Texas Tech (36-18, 15-9) vs. Oklahoma (33-20, 15-9)
Oklahoma won Series 2-1
After cleaning up OSU last weekend, Texas Tech looked invincible. However, Suners came to Lubbock and took care of the business. Had Sooners swept the series, they would have been co-champions and number one seeds in the tournament. After they had an overwhelming victory on Thursday and Friday nights, they seemed to be doing just that. Tech was able to perform uniquely on Saturday to avoid bouncing and sweeping.
Thursday: Oklahoma won 13-8. (Winning pitcher-Jake Bennett; Losing pitcher-Andrew Morris)
Friday: Oklahoma won 9-6. (Winning Pitcher-David Sandrin; Losing Pitcher-Brandon Birdsel; Save-Trebin Michael)
Saturday: Texas Tech won 10-2. (Winning Pitcher-Chase Hampton; Losing Pitcher-Cade Horton)
Baylor (26-26, 7-17) vs. # 8 Oklahoma (36-18, 15-9)
Oklahoma wins Series 2-1
This was the epic first game between the two. OSU was about to bounce after Tech swept last weekend. And they had a big lead of 11-3 at a stretch. But Bears found a way to get the job done and tied the game at 8.th And in the 9th inning, I hit a 2-run goodbye home run and won. OSU then wins both games on Friday and Saturday.
Thursday: Baylor won 13-11. (Winning pitcher-Adam Muirhead; Losing pitcher-Houston Morrill)
Friday: Oklahoma State University won 11-5. (Winning pitcher-Justin Campbell; Losing pitcher-Mason Marriott)
