Luka Doncic needs more from the Mavericks in the playoffs

Dallas — You’ll see that when Jason Kidd has to look at Maxi Kleber. It is a victory to know that the score per minute does not leave the Mavericks.

As the oversized speaker on the rim of the American Airlines Center checks the contents of the statistics sheet, the clicking sound becomes more and more painful as the game progresses.

It’s clear that Luka Doncic must be a starred Super Mario to give the team a chance. And when his power weakens, he is exhausted and asks the referee to evacuate.

The Dallas Mavericks are ahead of expectations. This is an equivalent prosecution of Phoenix Suns praising Kid’s team. But they are not ready for this stage. Not against these Golden State Warriors.

And by the time they exist, many important parts will probably be around or less noticeable.

The Warriors won the 109-100 Game 3 on Sunday night and played in one of the NBA Finals.

Consider this: The Warriors are the 5th best player, and one night the 6th or 7th will be Doncic’s # 1 running mate in the series. The franchise savior is effective.

All Andrew Wiggins has to do is protect Doncic — and sometimes dunk him. His career hasn’t been demonstrated that way, but he’s talented in every way, as his pedigree suggests.

And he’s a player the Warriors don’t have to have every night. His playoff consistency, 27, and 11 rebounds this evening take the Warriors to another level. In addition to playing in June, he will take on the winner of the Miami-Boston Slugfest and play against Jayson Tatum and Jimmy Butler.

“Wiggins is a talented player, he’s an all-star,” Kid said. “And when you look at what they want him to do, it’s high level.”

The Warriors are a team full of men with grown-up ass who allow expression. It was strengthened and even bolder by the experience of the championship. By comparison, heretics are still in their infancy.

“And this was a great lesson we learned from us,” Kid said. “This isn’t the end. It was just the beginning. When you remember, I said this in the Phoenix series. I have good memories.”

The Warriors have vivid memories of the team they saw in Game 2. This team played a terrible good game for the Lorde team, but deflated and left. The emphasis was on winning the game, reducing the remaining self-confidence, and taking advantage of the suspicions that sneaked into the last 48 hours.

“Basically we can get rid of the team tonight,” said Warriors forward Draymond Green. Draymond Green won the technical, but quickly triggered a decisive third-quarter run. “We came out at the specific strength level, focus level needed to get out on the road and steal it. We certainly wanted to go all-in to this.”

The Warriors set the record for at least one road game, the NBA, in the 26th playoff series featuring Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Green. If the Mavericks win the road game in this series, it means they stop the elimination of two consecutive games, turn this series to their ears, and return to Dallas for Game 6.

Anything is possible in Doncic, but it’s like asking him to protect Wiggins at the edge — just expecting it to end with an embarrassing and entertaining replay.

“It was impressive, I’m not going to lie,” Doncic said. “I watched the video again, I was like: Oh.. It was pretty incredible. I wish I had that rabbit. “

Doncic’s splendor has been exhibited throughout this postseason, and his work places him on a cute visual display with basketball ghosts. It evoked the idea that he could probably beat the championship-decorated team in his fourth year and increase his chances of competing in the up-and-coming NBA Finals.

But this isn’t trivial for Doncic, not for LeBron James in 2007. The only decoration the team has is a side job that has attracted the wrath of the NBA’s league office with multiple fines.

His showmanship (Simmy in the direction of Curry after ringing the buzzer and finishing the first quarter) is more artistic and impactful than anything else he did in the evening, which is his postseason. It was the third 40-point game of. There will be a loss.

He takes on the burden of scoring and wonders how he plays when he has the talent to demand the ball at an all-star rate. Only Jalen Brunson and Spencer Dinwidy have a runway to do their own thing, and everyone else has to eat what Doncic is hunting.

“I think there is a combination. I just couldn’t shoot the ball well,” Kid said. “Look at the three guys who scored. That’s not enough. For the Warriors, we need someone to participate aggressively, but we’re looking better.”

Doncic’s nightly show masks the flaws in his game that must be improved before becoming Harden, Slovenia. Play against your teammates, overcome inevitable frustration, and, of course, personal defense.

But staring at Luka on every switch is the best shooter ever, the best shooter ever, the up-and-coming Max player … and the guy who made him a playoff poster for all the wrong reasons, Wiggins.

It’s easy to see why Dallas is obsessed with a high flyer from Chicago named Zach LaVine, a former Wiggins teammate who will become a free agent in July. A player with that one-on-one excellence that puts a stretch mark on his athletic ability, defense will make Doncic forget his own stretch mark when he is not defending.

Or JaVale McGee at the Sands Center, another potential summer target that the Mavericks are familiar with because the Mavericks, a player who milled the arena after the match, played a few years ago.

The gap is wide and team building will be nearly 10 years for the Warriors.

“For example, like Draymond. He’s the biggest player. He’s one of the greatest players in history,” Dinwidy said. “But he’s not a traditional standalone Max Guy, right? For example, don’t answer him. Get 30. Yes. They have a great team structure and great chemistry. Have, they are essentially a dynasty. “

The Mavericks are basically as advanced as their talents, with Reggie Bullock 0-10 (7 missed triples) and Clever missing all five of his attempts.

The crank went from 3 to 45 to 13, and more than half of the shots were from long distances.

It’s pretty stupid to ask, given that changing the style to reduce threes later in the game worked well in a series win against perhaps the toughest dispatched opponents, Utah and Phoenix. It seems.

“You can definitely attack the rim, but we are built the way we built,” Dinwidy said. “I entered the finals of the Western Conference and started missing shots, but I can’t throw my baby out of the bath water.”

The baby has a cold and the Warriors threw another relentless cold blanket. With plans for June awaiting, the Mavericks have something to do.
