The second beta version of Android 13 has been released and is ready for testing. This new release was announced on Google I / O and introduced new features and improvements. So far, Android 13 seems to be a refinement of Android 12 rather than a major release. This is great. Android 12 has proven to be one of the best iterations of the platform to date, so if not the best.

From Android 13 Beta 1, animations are smoother, materials are more sophisticated, QR codes are easier to scan, notifications are better managed, suggested app features are back, display / text I found that the size can be configured in the same place.

But what about Android 13 Beta 2? What new features and improvements have you brought to your ride? Let’s check.

Pixel Launcher Global Search on Android 13 Beta 2

If you’re using a Pixel smartphone, we’d love to know that some global search options are back. This ability to search for devices from the permanent Google search bar on the home screen was originally added to the Pixel 12 launcher, but has been removed from the first beta version of Android 13.

As of Android 13 Beta 2, Global Search has added the ability to search for apps installed on your device, but nothing more. Hopefully, in the coming months, we’ll be adding this full feature and expecting more.

For example, on a Pixel 6 Pro running Android 12, tap the persistent Google search bar and type Slack to see the search results and Slack launcher (Figure A).

If your phone has other Slack related files, they may appear in the results.

However, Android 13 Beta 2 shows the same results as Android 12, but does not contain any relevant content.

Dark Mode Scheduled on Android 13 Beta 2

This feature should please those who wake up in the middle of the night to use their mobile phones. Just squint at the dazzling light. Android 13 Beta 2 allows you to schedule a pseudo-dark that turns on automatically at bedtime. To do this, open the Digital Wellbeing app and tap sleep mode (Figure B).

On the result screen (Figure C), Make sure grayscale is enabled,[次へ]Tap.

In the next window (Figure D), Set the start and end times of sleep mode,[完了]Click.

When complete, grayscale mode will turn on and off at the desired time.

Android 13 Beta 2: Other changes and improvements

There are some more changes and improvements, but none of these contain many of the “wow” elements.

  • Minimum battery saver increased from 5% to 10%.
  • The battery level widget has been improved to show the Pixel’s battery level only when no Bluetooth device is connected.
  • The animation is further refined and includes a new pulsating in-display fingerprint scanner icon.
  • The media player has been tuned to make it easier to hide the media player by repositioning some controllers (such as before and after quick skip) to the right side of the player.
  • You can now easily access split screen mode from an application in the dock. Press and hold one to see a split screen icon in the pop-up menu. Note: I have upgraded my Pixel 5 to Beta 2, but I haven’t seen this feature yet.
  • The new photo picker adds more controls to files that can be accessed by different apps, allowing you to choose a particular file type to share with a particular app.
  • Clipboard history is now automatically cleared after a “short time”.
  • The settings category no longer “pops” once tapped, but it has a subtle slide animation.

How to test Android 13 Beta 2

Keep in mind that this is just the second beta version of Android 13 and more tweaks, features and optimizations will be made in the future. If you are interested in testing the beta version of Android 13 (we do not recommend doing this with daily drivers), please visit the Android Beta program and register one of your devices.
